Be Heart Smart Programs Combat Heart Disease in Northwest Indiana

Purdue Extension- Lake County is taking action against the leading cause of death for men and women in Indiana—heart disease. In partnership with the Lake County Health Department and funding from Health First Indiana, the Be Heart Smart Program is offered throughout the county. This four‑session educational series is designed to help adults reduce their risk of heart disease by making simple lifestyle changes to last a lifetime.  Areas of focus include: managing blood pressure and cholesterol, increasing physical activity, improving nutritional habits, managing stress, and communicating effectively with healthcare providers.
