The 167th Indiana State Fair concluded with record-breaking success, drawing Hoosiers from across the state to enjoy 15 days of summertime fun, competition, education and entertainment. This year the Indiana State Fair had an impressive attendance — 854,236, a notable increase from the previous year.

With a strong focus on 4-H programming, Purdue Extension coordinated a staggering 13,254 livestock entries, 733 4-H non-animal events and oversaw the submission of 9,461 4-H non-animal projects! These efforts are a testament to Purdue Extension’s commitment to youth development, providing young Hoosiers with opportunities to showcase their skills, creativity and dedication.

Purdue Extension's presence was felt beyond the 4-H competitions. The Purdue Extension building served as a hub of activity, showcasing the wide array of programs and initiatives that Purdue Extension delivers across Indiana. The return of popcorn to the building was a crowd favorite, drawing visitors eager to learn more about the Extension's impact while enjoying a classic fair treat.

A special highlight of the fair was the Purdue Extension picnic, which brought together 140 retirees, faculty, and staff. This event underscored the sense of community and shared purpose among those who have dedicated their careers to Purdue Extension's mission.

This year, Purdue Extension's presence at the State Fair was even stronger, thanks to our digital initiatives. The introduction of a Purdue Extension State Fair website and the "People at the Fairway" video series marked a significant leap in engagement. We had an extraordinary increase in Facebook followers and webpage views during the fair, reflecting the growing interest in our programs and resources.

These initiatives not only expanded Purdue Extension's reach but made a tangible impact on how the organization connects with the community. Moving forward, there is great potential for counties to further enhance their outreach by posting videos, photos, and news stories on their websites. This approach can generate traffic and leave a lasting impression on followers, amplifying Purdue Extension's influence across the state.

Your involvement in the Indiana State Fair was integral to its success, both on the fairgrounds and online. Through your leadership, innovative programming and a strengthened digital presence, Purdue Extension helped create an event that was both memorable and impactful. Thank you!
