COUNTY REQUIREMENTS
All livestock exhibitors MUST complete the animal I.D. portion of 4HOnline. This takes the place of the carbon enrollment forms. This must be completed by May 15. This DOES NOT enter you for the Indiana State Fair. See State Fair Animal Entry on page 40! Classes may be scratched on the morning of the show.
- No Coggins Test is required for the county or state fairs.
- Registered and/or grade animals may be shown in all classes. No stallions are eligible except weanlings.
- Ownership, enrollment, and leasing deadline is May 15. Record sheets will be turned in at the last meeting prior to show.
- No animal may be substituted or traded for the original animal after May 15. Three animals are the maximum number a member may show at county fair.
- Animals must be measured in conjunction with 4HOnline.
- All animals exhibiting at the county fair or State Fair will be identified in the Indiana 4-H Online Animal ID system by May 15 or earlier deadline set by county. The online animal ID website is located at https://in.4honline.com.
- 4HOnline information will be mailed in April to all animal members who must submit their animal ID online.
- A color picture is to be uploaded for each horse to be eligible for the Indiana State Fair and to exhibit at the county fair. Animal’s name and a maximum of 2 color photos that show all four feet and face must be uploaded to 4HOnline.com by May 15.
- Certificate of Completion of Indiana 4-H Requirement Vaccination (4-H-1031-W) form should be completed and carried to all Horse and Pony Events. Failure to meet guidelines on this form, an incomplete form, or outdated vaccinations will result in ineligibility from events.
- Lease agreements must be on file in the County Extension office by May 15.
- All animals must be sound and healthy. Any questionable animal may be removed by a licensed veterinarian or at the judge’s discretion.
- The use of drugs is prohibited. Animals may be checked at random for conformance with this rule.
- Any animal exhibited must be shown and owned by the contestant or owned in partnership. Note: Leased animals may be shown subject to the approval of both the County 4-H Horse & Pony Committee and the Extension Educator in charge.
- Animals are not to be ridden on the fairgrounds except in designated areas to be announced on show day. Failure to comply may result in loss of awards and dismissal from show.
- A member may make only one entry per class. An individual animal may be shown by only one 4-H member, in any class, at the County Fair.
- An individual animal may be shared by two siblings at the County Fair, as long as they are not in the same class and the animal was enrolled with both siblings by the May 15 enrollment deadline. The 4-H Horse & Pony Committee and the Judge reserve the right to limit the number of riders on a sibling shared horse, for the welfare of the horse.
- Exhibitors must wear exhibit numbers in Show Arena. Proper attire must be worn in the ring by all class exhibitors and during trophy presentation as listed in the Indiana 4-H Horse & Pony Handbook.
- All entries must be entered in appropriate classes or may be disqualified. Weanlings, yearlings, and 2-year-old animals must be shown at height of dam, except if height exceeds the dam's. Animals may be measured by an appointed official.
- Animals not entered and on fairgrounds by specified times may be disqualified, unless prior arrangements are made.
- All protests must be submitted following the Delaware County 4-H Grievance Policy located in the Fair Book.
- Rules not covered will be handled by the Horse & Pony Advisory Committee. The committee reserves the right to adjust classes if numbers and conditions warrant.
- The 4-H Horse & Pony Advisory Committee reserves the right to dismiss any unruly animals.
- You must complete the following Horse and Pony requirements to show in the Arena at the County Fair: Attend a minimum of three (3) Horse and Pony meetings or two (2) Horse and Pony meetings and one (1) All Livestock (general) meeting; Participate in a minimum of two (2) workshops with contesting and jumping exhibitors having at least one of their two in these disciplines.
