Although much attention is given to showing a steer or heifer at the fair, the beef project emphasizes much more. 4-H’ers learn to care for their animal. They learn how to select a calf based on its characteristics. They also learn about feed rations, training, grooming the calf properly, and evaluating the efficiency of the animal.
