What is a 4-H Club?
A 4-H Club is a group of youth from multiple families who meet regularly throughout the year with caring adult volunteers or staff. Together, members participate in hands-on learning experiences, build friendships, and develop valuable life skills.
4-H Clubs are designed to support positive youth development by helping young people experience a sense of belonging, grow their skills (mastery), build confidence and independence, and give back to their communities (generosity). Through engaging activities rooted in research-based education from Land-Grant Universities, 4-H empowers youth to learn by doing and become leaders in their communities.

Club FAQ's
When do they meet?
Most clubs meet once a month, typically in the evening, from October through June. Many clubs also offer additional activities, events, and community service opportunities outside of regular meetings.
You may contact the Purdue Extension Office to get a list of club meeting dates. Once you've enrolled in a specific club, you should also begin receiving email reminders from the club leaders about upcoming events and meetings.
Do I have to attend every meeting?
Attendance is encouraged but not required (with the exception of shooting sports). Even attending a few meetings can help youth connect with club leaders, make friends, and get more out of their 4-H experience.
How do I join a club?
You’ll choose your club(s) during enrollment through 4-H Online. We recommend joining a club that meets near your home, but you’re welcome to join any township club in the county.
Some projects also have specialized clubs, and members enrolled in those projects will be asked to join the corresponding club. A full list of township and specialty clubs—including meeting locations and leader contact information—is available below.
Who should I contact with questions?
The Purdue Extension White County Office is always happy to help with general 4-H questions. You can also contact your club leaders for specific information about meetings, activities, and projects.
Who are club leaders?
4-H Clubs are led by dedicated adult volunteers who enjoy working with youth and supporting their growth. All volunteers complete background checks and participate in annual training to ensure a safe, positive environment for the 700+ youth involved in White County 4-H.
What happens at a typical 4-H meeting?
Meetings often include a mix of business (led by youth officers), hands-on activities, project learning, and fun. Members may give demonstrations, hear guest speakers, participate in games, or work on community service projects.
What ages can join?
4-H is open to youth in grades K–12. Most club meetings and activities are designed with 3rd–12th grade members in mind.
Youth in grades K–2 can participate in Mini 4-H, which offers age-appropriate, hands-on learning experiences through workshops and special events.
With the exception of Shooting Sports and Dog Clubs, youth of all ages (K–12) are welcome to attend club meetings.
