ServSafe Manager and Food Handler Classes Offered by Purdue Extension

ServSafe Manager Certification is an approved training in the state of Indiana to become a certified food protection manager.

ServSafe Food Handler is for anyone else who needs basic food safety and food handling training, including home-based vendors, food service workers, volunteers, or others who work with food who only need the basic training. This course is NOT intended for food service managers.

Purdue Extension offers two types of ServSafe training courses: ServSafe Manager and ServSafe Food Handler.

Anyone who needs certified as the food protection manager will need the ServSafe Manager course and exam. ServSafe Manager certification fulfills the requirements in the state of Indiana to be a certified food protection manager.

On the other hand, ServSafe Food Handler is a much shorter course that offers a certificate of achievement (opposed to certification) and is and excellent training for anyone who works with food including restaurant staff, volunteers, and home-based vendors. ServSafe Food Handler fulfills requirements in the state of Indiana for food safety training needed by home-based vendors.
