Harris Hall Open Class Horticulture Exhibits

During the 2023 Putnam County 4-H Fair, individuals can exhibit horticulture and agricultural products in Harris Hall. This includes items such as cut flowers, hay, honey, eggs, vegetables, herbs, and artistic flower arrangements. Residents of Putnam County, Putnam County Extension Homemaker Club Members, Putnam County Master Gardener Association Members, parents of Putnam County 4-H Members, and Putnam County 4-H Members are encouraged to enter exhibits into Harris Hall. 2023 Youth Activities

Kids ages 4 through 2nd grade are encouraged to exhibit vegetables and cut flowers in Harris Hall during the 2023 Putnam County 4-H Fair.  

Entries will be accepted on Sunday, July 23rd from 2:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Judging will begin at 4:00 p.m.  Participants are encouraged to stay and listen to the judge’s comments.

 Rules

  1. Children from age 4 through 2nd grade are eligible to exhibit.
  2. Exhibitor may bring one of all three vegetables and one of all three cut flowers.
  3. Ribbons in each class will be awarded.
  4. Only cut flowers and produce is to be exhibited. NO PLANTS.
  5. NO VEGETABLE EXHIBITS WILL BE RELEASED TO EXHIBITORS. Due to health concerns, exhibits will be disposed of.

 Exhibits

  1. VEGETABLE CLASS
    1. Cucumber - any variety      1 specimen
    2. Squash - any variety           1 specimen
    3. Tomato - any variety           1 specimen

 

  1. CUT FLOWER CLASS
    1. Marigold - any color, any variety 1 stem
    2. Petunia - any color, any variety 1 stem
    3. Sunflower - any color, any variety 1 stem

Back for a third year!

FREE for children ages 3-5, and they will receive a book, barn tour and snack. This year's featured animal is llamas/alpacas. Participants will also receive a monthly newsletter mailed to their home for the remainder of the year. Register by July 14, 2022!

Students from Kindergarten through 2nd grade may enter our Annual Kids Best Baker Contest though the Adult Open Class during the 2023 Putnam County Fair!

Contest Rules

  1. Students from Kindergarten through 2nd grade may enter (grade just completed in May)
  2. Category for 2023 – COOKIES (exhibit 6)
  3. Entries should be baked by the exhibitor (with help from an adult). No-bake cookies are
    not allowed. Entries should also include a written recipe.
  4. Entries can be brought on Saturday, July 22nd in the York Automotive Community
    Building, East Building (Adult Open Class) from 5:00 – 6:30pm. Judging will mirror
    the 4-H judging. Awards will follow at 7:00pm.
  5. Prizes will be awarded for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place. Those three (3) placings will also be
    auctioned off to the highest bidder at the Baker’s Best Contest Auction on Tuesday, July
    25th at 6:30pm in the York Automotive Community Building, East Building.
