Agriculture & Natural Resources

What We Do

The Agriculture and Natural Resources (ANR) program through Purdue Extension connects local residents with trusted, research-backed information on farming, gardening, conservation, and land management. Whether you're a large-scale producer, a backyard gardener, or simply passionate about Indiana’s natural resources, ANR offers hands-on workshops, field days, and expert guidance to help you make informed decisions. From improving soil health to managing invasive species, our goal is to support a thriving, sustainable community rooted in agriculture and environmental stewardship.

PARP

  • A Private Pesticide Applicator is anyone who applies pesticides to property they own, rent or otherwise control for the purpose of producing an agricultural commodity. Any private applicator wishing to buy and use restricted-use pesticides must be certified by passing the Core exam.

  • Private applicator permits are current for five years. In that five years, you attend three recertification programs or take the pesticide or fertilizer certification exam. Quick link to all approved PARP events.

Insect or Plant Identification

  • Bring a sample of the insect or plant that you want to identify to our office, or send a picture of them via email. Samples may be sent in to Purdue's Plant and Pest Diagnostic Laboratory (PPDL) for further study or identification for a fee.
