Purdue Extension Resources and Programs

Purdue Extension Whitley County logo

A local resident recently asked me how they could find out about Purdue Extension resources and programs, which prompted me to offer some outreach through our news partners. I will concentrate most on happenings within the agriculture and natural resources world, but bear in mind that Purdue Extension also offers programs relating to health and human sciences, and programs relating to 4-H youth development.

First, I would direct readers to our newly updated website at www.extension.purdue.edu/whitley. We strive to post the most current information there. If something looks out of date, you find a broken link, or you just cannot find what you’re looking for, give us a call at 260-244-7615. We’re also available to those who don’t like messing with computers.

From the office home page, you’ll find a button link to our county office newsletters, which detail program happenings and important dates. Toward the bottom of the home page is a calendar of events. Note that these events include state events. We’ve provided a link to search exclusively for Whitley County events.

For agriculture and natural resources programs and information, scroll down to the link on the home page that says, “Agriculture & Natural Resources,” (ANR for short). That link will take you to the updates I post, including upcoming programs, news articles, frequently asked questions (FAQs), and topical links of interest.

Agriculture and natural resources programs may include information about crop or livestock farming, farm management, gardening, pest control, woodland management, or a host of other similar topics.

For example, let’s say you have a question about how to combat some insect pests in your home vegetable garden. That’s a fairly common question, so I’ve included it in the “FAQs” page. Find the link to FAQs on the ANR page under “Additional ANR Pages.” You’ll find the answer to your question in a link that takes you directly to the publication that explains garden pests and how to deal with them.

Purdue Extension offers in-person programs, and a growing number of virtual programs that can be accessed from a home computer, tablet, or phone.

I would encourage everyone to check out the resources, programs and services offered by Purdue Extension. We strive to offer timely and informative educational programs that meet the needs of local residents.
