Creating Roots To Grow A Community

What a wonderful evening out at the Park Party on Sept. 23rd, 2021, which gave the community a chance to see and weigh in on designs for this space! Local businesses, community members, the Whitewater Valley Railroad and collaborators all attended this event with a healthy meal provided by Purdue Extension through the Robert Wood Johnson grant focused on health!

This collaboration with Discover Connersville, Fayette County Community Voices, Purdue University and the Fayette County Purdue Extension and Connersville Parks & Recreation has been in the works since 2017. We are so happy to be apart of the project’s root system, helping it to grow! Purdue University was a major aid in the revitalization of the 2nd street park. In October of 2019, Purdue Landscape Architecture students and their professor, Dr. Aaron Thompson, came to Connersville to work on designs for the downtown area, which included this park.

Since then our Community Wellness Coordinator, in collaboration with these local organizations, have come together to keep these visions alive for our downtown area. We look forward to sharing the future of the J. Long Memorial 2nd Street Park with you and look forward to seeing it thrive for decades to come.
