COUNTY REQUIREMENTS

- Poultry cages will be provided and placed on paper, so 4-H members are to bring wood shavings or straw for each cage.
- Each 4-H member will furnish their own container for feed and water.
- Any poultry that did not come from a certified hatchery or going to State Fair must be blood tested by July 1. Contact poultry leader for more information. For additional health requirements, please see Animal Health Requirements in this book.
- All pen assignment forms will be mailed in June.
- All birds must be in 4-H member’s possession by May 15, except for the Meat Production broilers and roasters, which is June 10.
- A 4-H member may enter a maximum of 10 chicken entries either commercial or exhibition or a combination of both. There is a limit of 2 entries per class. For example, in Class 1, 2 pairs of pullets may be shown.
- In addition to the chickens, a member may show a maximum of 2 males and 2 females in each of the geese, duck, turkey, and guinea classes. There is a maximum of 10 birds shown in the waterfowl classes.
- Members may display 6 eggs in a Styrofoam carton. One entry per class. Eggs will be donated to a local charity of Poultry Leaders discretion.
- To Exhibit at the Indiana State Fair, you must complete online state fair enrollment. See State Fair Animal Entry on page 40!Meat birds should be no younger than 6 weeks and not much older than 12 weeks. 4-H members should have possession of their meat birds by June 10.Hens, Cocks, Old Ducks, Old Drakes, Old Goose, and Old Gander – more than 1 year of age or more day of show.
