frPurdue Extension announces winners of 2025 Paul B. Crooks Award, Eric G. Sharvelle Award and Director’s Award

Purdue Extension recognized many outstanding individuals during its annual Professional Development Conference. On Dec. 5, Purdue Extension announced three award winners who showed a dedication to Extension and its history of excellence: the 2025 Paul B. Crooks Outstanding Extension Educator Award, the 2025 Eric G. Sharvelle Distinguished Extension Specialist Award, and the Director’s Award.

Lori Bouslog, Paul B. Crooks Outstanding Extension Educator Award

Lori Bouslog, County Extension Director and Health and Human Sciences Extension Educator in Vermillion County, received the 2025 Paul B. Crooks Outstanding Extension Educator Award, which honors educators who have demonstrated excellence in extension programming.

During her 40-year career with Purdue Extension, Bouslog has served in and collaborated with organizations and leaders to improve the health of three counties: Randolph, Sullivan and Vermillion.

The relationships Bouslog has formed have resulted in impactful programming for local residents. She worked with the Connections IN Health team to address poor health statistics in Vermillion County, engaging over 100 community leaders and individuals in the Vermillion Parke Health Coalition. The Coalition has hosted several resource fairs, banquets and events centered on improving local health issues such as food insecurity. Bouslog also works with the Vermillion County Health Department to offer Dining with Diabetes. Her connection to the Cardiovascular and Diabetes Coalition of Indiana helped bring the program to her community at no cost.

Bouslog also advocates for financial literacy. Over 13 years, she has reached more than1,400 students with the Captain Cash program, and she is active in the Financial Resource Management Team.

Daniel Quinn, Eric G. Sharvelle Distinguished Extension Specialist Award

Daniel Quinn, assistant professor of agronomy and Extension specialist, received the 2025 Eric G. Sharvelle Distinguished Extension Specialist Award. The Sharvelle Award recognizes a  specialist who has served the people of Indiana by demonstrating proficiency and professionalism, along with a track record of excellence in programming.

Quinn’s applied research and Extension program for corn management, which serves thousands of Indiana stakeholders, is regionally, nationally and internationally recognized. The agronomic research focuses on farmer and client needs, which allows for direct application and timely outreach through countless presentations, articles and media outlets.

Quinn also demonstrates innovative outreach through his presence on digital platforms like X, his website, newsletter and his work as the co-host of the Purdue Crop Chat podcast. He has also reached thousands of stakeholders through field days, trainings, publications and conferences across the Midwest and the world.

As the ANR Assistant Program Leader for Purdue on the Farm, an on-farm program that expands Purdue’s Extension footprint around the state, Quinn implemented crop scouting programs, demonstrations, surveys, and on-farm research throughout Indiana. His leadership also extends to networking as the lead organizer and host for the Corn Improvement Conference in 2024, which resulted in new research programs and associations.

Cindy Hoye, Director’s Award

Cindy Hoye, director of the Indiana State Fair, received the Director’s Award. The award recognizes an individual or organization that has gone above and beyond to support Purdue Extension and its mission.

Throughout her 40-year career and leadership, Hoye has championed Indiana agriculture, Extension, and Indiana 4-H, cultivating a strong and ever-expanding partnership between Purdue Extension and the Indiana State Fair.

Her investment in Purdue Extension’s programming includes renovation of the 4-H complex, including the 4-H Exhibit Hall and 4-H Centennial Hall. In 2023, she oversaw the transformation of the swine barn into the Indiana Farm Bureau Fall Creek Pavilion—a state-of-the-art facility that continues to provide opportunities for Indiana 4-H youth and their families.

Hoye will retire in 2026, leaving behind a legacy of advocating for Purdue Extension’s educational mission and supporting Indiana agriculture at the fair.
