The "Tips for a Successful Doctor's Visit" program created by the National Institute of Aging shares information on how to prepare for your next doctor's visit. The Brain & Social Connections
Research shows that humans are hard-wired to have connections, but we have the most complex ways of demonstrating social behavior. The brain plays an important part in how we come together and do activities we wouldn't normally do on our own. As time goes on, we begin to see the cognitive impact social connections have on our brain. Learn how to stay socially active in your community and what activities provide the greatest connection to others. ServSafe Manager
The class will be held on Tues., June 27 from 8am-5pm at the Purdue Extension Elkhart County office. Check-in will be at 7:45am. The full 1-day training includes a manual and proctored exam. The certification is valid for 5 years. A photo ID with signature is required to take the exam (driver’s license, state ID, student ID, military ID, employee ID, U.S. green card, or valid passport). Mindfulness for Healthy Aging
Learn the definition of mindfulness and how the different types of mindfulness techniques can be beneficial as we age. This program will cover the implementation process of mindfulness and how it can
improve your brain and heart health. Offered Thursday, June 29th at 1:00pm at the Owls Club (2715 E. Jackson Blvd., Elkhart). Owls Club is a private, community organization that exists to help aging adults in Elkhart County and surrounding communities thrive. Summer Health Lunch Bunch
Are you looking to get the kids out of the house this summer? Bring them out June 6-July 21 every Tues. from 11:20am-12:30pm (Hay Park) and every Thurs. from 11:00am-12:00pm (Shanklin Park) for some outdoor learning activities. (None week of July 4th.) Goshen Health is partnering with Purdue Extension Elkhart County to offer fun, interactive nutrition education activities to the summer feeding sites listed above in the months of June and July. Kids who attend these lunch sites and participate earn fun prizes while learning!
