The Extension office is launching a new program this week called the Bicentennial Walking Challenge for Switzerland County! Grab 4-6 co-workers, friends, or compete by yourself and log your steps from your smart phone or fitness tracker. The goal of this event was to increase awareness and understanding of STEM activities. Statistics show few American Youth are taking an interest in science, technology, engineering, and math, or STEM. Our youth risk falling behind in preparing for the world's fastest-growing careers and important skills in problem-solving and critical thinking. By utilizing available resources youth can develop STEM skills.

This question was posed to 110 5th graders participating in the annual forestry field day. Purdue Extension partnered with the Switzerland County School Corporation, Switzerland County Soil and Water Conservation District, and the Switzerland County Farm Bureau Inc. to provide a program centered around forestry, S.T.E.M, and forestry related careers.
Switzerland County held STEM activities with 86, 6th grade youth. The 4-H National Youth Science Day Program is a premiere rallying event for science. This program brings together youth, volunteers, and educators from the nation's 109 land-grant colleges and universities. "Rockets to the Rescue" captures many of the wonders and issues of modern day engineering.
