Here are the requirements for this project:
Goat
Boer, Dairy, Myotonic
All 4-H goats must be owned and enrolled online by May 15th. Information on how to enroll will be included in the 4-H Newsletter. 4-H members should completely fill out all information on the online system. Exception would be if your animal was not weighed at ID Day, do not include Beginning Weight Date or Beginning Weight.
The following animals must attend ID Day
- Boer Goat Wethers (Weighed, County Tag)
- Boer Market Does (Weighed, County Tag)
- Boer Percentage or Commercial Does (County Tag/ Tattoo, and RFID Tag)
- Dairy Goat Wethers (Weighed, County Tag)
- Myotonic Wethers (Weighed, County Tag if not registered)
- Boer Goat Wethers, Boer Market Does, Non- registered Boer goat does, Dairy Goat Wethers, non-registered Myotonic Wethers must be ear tagged and weighed at the Jackson County ID Day. The goats five digit tag number or tattoo must be recorded in the online enrollment system along with the birthdate.
The following animals do not come to ID Day
- Registered Boer Goat Does
- Dairy Goat Does
- Myotonics Does
- Any Registered Boer, Dairy or Myotonic Goat needs a tattoo for identification purposes.
- Any one animal may not be enrolled by more than one 4-H member, except brothers and sisters. Animals would need to be entered under each siblings online identification.
- Registered Boer Goat Does and Dairy Goat Does must be identified by either their own registration number or their dam’s registration number. This number must be typed in the online animal enrollment system by May 15th and must match the animal’s registration paper. The system will not accept “Papers Applied For.” The animal’s birth date, breed, and tattoo number must be listed and these numbers must match the animal’s registration paper. At check-in at the fair, original registration papers must be presented and tattoos must match the registration papers and the original animal enrollment papers. “Recorded Grade” is a registered class for Dairy Goats.
- Meat goat wethers and non-registered meat goat does must be ear tagged at the Jackson County ID Day. The goat’s five digit tag number or tattoo must be recorded in the online enrollment system along with its birth date.
- 4-H exhibitors must have been enrolled in the dairy goat project in Jackson County before May 15th.
- A Born & Raised class for Boer Goat wethers will be offered at the Jackson County Fair. Please see Born & Raised information at the beginning of the animal section for more details.

Showmanship – Rookie, Junior, Senior, Master
Poster Exhibit Requirements: Posters are due the Wednesday before the Fair.
All posters, notebooks, and display boards must include a reference list indicating where information was obtained, giving credit to the original author, to complete the 4-H member’s exhibit. This reference list should/might include web site links, people and professionals interviewed, books, magazines, etc. It is recommended this reference list be attached to the back of a poster or display board, be the last page of a notebook, or included as part of the display visible to the public. A judge is not to discredit an exhibit for the manner in which references are listed.
Level 1 (Grades 3-5)
- Complete a minimum of 4 activities per year in the Level 1 Boer Goat manual. Turn in your manual and your green folder with record sheet on Wednesday prior to the fair.
- Exhibits (do a minimum of one)
- Exhibit your animal(s) at the Jackson County Fair.
- An educational poster (following poster guidelines) that shows something the 4-H’er learned from a completed activity in the Level 1 manual.
- Action Demo at the Fair. (Sign up at the Extension Office by Wednesday before the fair.)
Level 2 (Grades 6-8)
- Complete a minimum of 4 activities per year in the Level 2 Boer Goat manual. Turn in your manual and your green folder with record sheet on Wednesday prior to the Fair.
- Exhibits (do a minimum of one)
- Exhibit your animal(s) at the Jackson County Fair.
- An educational poster (following poster guidelines) that shows something the 4-H’er learned from a completed activity in the Level 2 manual.
