Indiana Master Naturalist 2022

The Junior Master Naturalist Program for 2022 has officially wrapped up. We would like to thank all of our youth, volunteers, special guest speakers, and everyone involved in making this a summer to remember!
DAY ONE: The Naturalist Campers focused on Humans in the Natural World. We explored O'Bannon Woods State Park, touring the homestead, tending to the garden, and venturing out into the nature trail to learned about wild edibles, leaf, and plant identification, and weather and climate change. Their service project was painting rain barrels, tending to the garden, and cleaning up debris around the park.
DAY TWO: Campers explored Marengo Cave while learning about Survival and Outdoor Skills, Caves, and Geology. They were able to go to the Dripstone and Crystal Cave tours, and their service project consisted of making First Aid kits as a donation.
DAY THREE: The campers focused on Zoology and Botany at the O'Bannon Woods State Park. They learned the importance of native species, and what invasive species can do to habitats. They also got to see different types of snakes from and raptors, skulls and pelts from different animals, and made seed bombs with native flower seeds to take home.
DAY FOUR: The big finale! We adventured to the Old Mill Canoes at the Blue River where campers learned about water ecology, canoed down the Blue River, collected and identified Macroinvertebres, and the importance of water quality. At the end of the canoeing trip, the campers were treated with ice cream, and we had a graduation ceremony where they received a badge and certificate. They were officially Junior Master Naturalists!
