Nicole Tombers continues to make the best better as a travel therapy recruiter for in San Diego, Calif.
Tombers graduated from Noblesville High School and was a ten year member in 2010. An active 4-H member in everything from Crafts to Dog Obedience, she has carried her 4-H skills with her all the way to the west coast.
Tombers holds degrees from Purdue University (exercise science) and the University of Evansville (physical therapy assisting). She began her professional life as a travel physical therapy assistant before deciding to move over to the staffing side. Tombers has been working as a travel therapy recruiter for two years. Tombers is employed by Pioneer Healthcare Services, a staffing agency for travel healthcare and education professionals including therapy (PT/OT/SLP) and nursing.
“I’m like a healthcare matchmaker, connecting travel therapists with their dream contracts around the country,” said Tombers.
“I have always enjoyed helping people, and as a recruiter I still get to do that. I can build meaningful relationships with my travel therapists and help our clients fill their job needs. 4-H was definitely a catalyst for my desire to learn, connect with others, and serve my community.”
Tombers puts her 4-H skills to the test daily, citing good communication skills, working under pressure and deadlines, and willingness to work hard as critical.
“I was a project procrastinator back in the day,” said Tombers with a laugh, “but the 4-H Motto, ‘To Make The Best Better’ is something that I continue to live by in both my personal and professional life as well.”
Looking back, Tombers also values her exposure to the more agricultural side of 4-H. She had opportunities to engage with agriculture and animals, particularly through the Royal Showmanship Contest. These are additional skills she has exercised while training her dog, Diego.
“Any time I bring up 4-H out here on the west coast, I learn that it is not as prevalent as it is in the Midwest. I am forever grateful for the opportunity to be involved in such a great organization. The ten years that I spent in 4-H is something that I will always be proud of and grateful for!”
