Animal Posters

State Fair Entries:

The county may send one exhibitor from each of the eligibility categories: Cats, Dogs, Poultry, and Rabbits.

** Fair Entry – You MUST register your 4-H project in Fair Entry if you plan to exhibit at the 4-H Fair. See page 21! **

Exhibit Introduction

This project is designed for those members who would like to learn about livestock but do not own the animals. Species included in this project: (SF denotes State Fair Entry). All marked with an * must be enrolled in the specific project area in 4HOnline before registering in Fair Entry. For example, anything with an * i.e. Cats, Poultry, Rabbits, and Dogs, will need to be enrolled in that specific animal project. All others below (not marked with “*”will be entered in “Animal Posters”.

NOTE: Member’s enrolled in live animal projects have the option to exhibit a poster as described below without enrolling in the livestock poster project if their animal is unable to participate in the live animal show.

 

  1. Select a topic from the project manual for the appropriate species, which you would like to develop into a poster. Highlight one specific aspect of this topic on the poster.
  2. Follow standard poster guidelines for 22’ x 28” poster.
  3. You may exhibit one poster in each species.
  4. This project will be judged by levels not by species.

State Fair Guidelines:

POULTRY POSTER

This project is open to any enrolled 4-H member. Exhibiting live poultry is not required. The purpose is to visually demonstrate knowledge of poultry.

  • One or more birds fed and cared for by member
  • Complete number of suggested activities listed in the member's guide.
  • Develop an idea and build it into an attractive display as well as learn the technical aspect of some part of the poultry industry.
  • DOG POSTER
  • To promote an educational, creative, dog related 4-H exhibit. Highlight an educational topic about dogs.
  • A dog poster should be designed to teach those who view it, about the selected topic. 4-Hers are encouraged to seek assistance from their  4-H Dog program leaders, the County Extension Office staff, the Internet, and the Public Library.

RABBIT POSTER

  • Each 4-H rabbit poster should be original and of a practical nature related to some phase of the domestic rabbit industry. Elaborate and expensive equipment cannot be justified.

CAT POSTER

  • Suggested topics: The following suggestions are ideas for development of educational cat poster. 4-H members need not be limited by or to just these mentioned topics. Below are additional suggested cat topics:

 

Level 1 (Grades 3 – 5)

Animal care, animal breeds, litter-training, treating my animal with care and respect, animal responsibilities, grooming skills, training my animal, de-clawing good or not, neutering or spaying, my animal is lost, determining animal costs, traveling with my animal, my animal’s safety, me and my animal, and helping those with disabilities.

Level 2 (Grades 6 – 8)

Animal associations, an animal clinic, here comes the judge, training with extra praise, let’s decide for my animal, careers related to animals, should my animal have offspring?, types of animal food, feeding my animal, things I’ve learned, insect pests, animal talk, symptoms of ill health, my visiting pet therapy program, animals get cold too!, saying good-by, purposes of animals, responsible animal ownership, uses of animals, disease/parasite prevention, and careers with animals.

 Level 3 (Grades 9 – 12)

Understanding an animal show, planning an animal business, am I a role model?, animal genetics, animal organs and systems, exploring careers, learning about leadership, my animal quiz bowl, teaching others, having fun learning, protecting our environment, issues of animal welfare/rights, learning life-skills with the animal project, your animal and the law, food, an animal’s sense of smell, animal over-population problems, and animal health.
