Beef Replacement Heifer Selection
Purdue Extension is hosting a Beef Replacement Heifer Selection program on Saturday, October 24, 2026 from 1:00-4:00 pm at the Southern Indiana Purdue Ag. Center (11371 E. Purdue Farm Rd., Dubois, IN 47527). The program will discuss using visual evaluation and genomic testing data when selecting replacement heifers. Program topics and speakers include:
- Live animal evaluation.
- “Why use commercial heifer genomic testing and understanding selection indexes” – Dr. Gordon Jones, retired Western Kentucky Genetics Professor and Partner Red Hill Farms.
- “How commercial heifer genomic data can help seedstock supplies assist commercial cattlemen to select bulls” panel discussion – Chris Muegge, MS, Midwest Beef Cattle Consultants and Dr. Nick Minton, Indiana Beef Evaluation Program Director and Purdue Beef Systems Specialist.
