4-H Ceramics Project

  • All exhibits must begin with a piece of greenware or clay
  • Piece must have name or initials and year carved into the bottom
  • The use of lead free glazes is required on all food surfaces
  • Inside must be finished if they have a usable surface (ex. vase)
  • Must be kiln fired
  • A craft card (4-H618a-W) must be submitted with project
  • A completed Boone County Ceramics Record Sheet must be submitted with the exhibit at the time of check-in
EXHIBIT CLASS GUIDELINES

Exhibit one article/set using the following techniques:

Grade 3

  • Clean and Stain
Antiquing and Dry Brushing are prohibited

Grade 4

  • Clean and Glaze

Specialty glazes are prohibited

Grade 5

  • Clean and Stain
  • Dry Brush and/or Antique

Grade 6

  • Clean Article
  • Use a Combination of Glaze and Stain

Specialty glazes are prohibited

Grade 7

  • Clean and Glaze (minimum of two glazes, one of which must be a specialty such as, crystal, crackling, or textured)

Grade 8

  • Personally alter your project in the greenware state

Grade 9

  • Use a specialty technique such as, but not limited to, majolica, scraffito,
  • Design work using wax resist, silica sand, or advanced decal work
  • Free choice

This exhibit may include techniques that are not listed above

Grades 10-12

  • Free Choice, including sculptures and/or pottery created by 4-H member
  • Must be kiln fired
