Johnnie Mae Farm: Nourishing the Community

Johnnie Mae Farm embodies the Purdue Extension mission of transforming lives and livelihoods as we partner with the community to provide education and fresh, healthy produce.

In 2023, Johnnie Mae Farm was able to produce more than 2,000 pounds of fruits and vegetables sold at Friday markets or donated to local food pantries. Most markets featured at least 12 different items including high-demand items like collards, okra, green tomatoes, and purple-hulled peas.

We also partnered with several community organizations to provide regular cooking classes. This helped community members learn to prepare the produce items in healthy ways or preserve their garden bounty for winter eating.
