The Purdue Master Gardener program in Jefferson County sign up has been extended to February 28. The Master Gardener class is a 12 week series of gardening topics including soils, plant disease, botany, woody ornamentals, vegetables, fruits, etc. Materials for the class cost $125.00. Classes will be held at the Purdue Cooperative Extension Office located at the Jefferson County Fairgrounds beginning March 6. The first class will be on soils. The classes will be held Tuesday evenings from 6-9 p.m
New for 2018, to exhibit beef cattle, feeder calves, dairy cattle, swine, sheep, meat goats, dairy goats, utility goats, poultry and rabbits, 4-H members must be certified through the Youth for the Quality Care of Animals. This annual program can be completed via online modules ($12) or in-person trainings ($3). This training must be complete by June 1, 2018 in order to exhibit at the county fair.
Farm families can learn how to ensure a successful ownership transition from one generation to the next in a workshop sponsored by the Purdue Extension Succession Planning Team.
Be Heart Smart by attending a two part program scheduled for Tuesdays, February 13 and 20 at the Purdue Extesnion-Jefferson County Extension Office Conference Room. Choose your class, based on your schedule. Times are 11:30 am to 1:00 pm or 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm. Cost is $10 per person. RSVP by February 9 by calling 812-265-8919.
