White County 4th Grade Ag Day

Why is it important to learn about agriculture in Indiana and White County?

White County is one of the leading agricultural counties in the State of Indiana.  In many years, our county ranks at the top in popcorn production, in the top five in the State for the production of corn, and in the top ten for soybeans and hog production.  In 2017, White County ranked 2nd in the state for production of popcorn, 3rd for corn, 7th for soybeans, and 5th for hogs.

In 2017, White County farms had more than 282,000 acres of land in agriculture, which is 2nd most in the state.  Annually, the amount of money generated from White County farm production exceeds $150 million.  In addition to these farm receipts, agriculture also supports various farm suppliers and provides employment for thousands of county workers

On Friday, April 11th, your class will attend White County Ag Day at the 4-H Fairgrounds in Reynolds from 10 am – 2 pm.  For the next few minutes, I’d like to tell you what you will see at Ag Day.

The purpose of Ag Day is to help you learn about Indiana and White County Agriculture.  We’ll move around the 4-H Fairgrounds in groups to see different displays and participate in fun activities.  You’ll have the chance to learn from several different people who are businessmen and women from throughout White County. You will receive a scavenger hunt. As you visit each display, you will find an answer to one or more of the Scavenger Hunt questions. At the end you will be able to take the scavenger hunt home and share what you learned at ag day.
