Community Wellness

WHAT WE DO

Community Wellness Coordinators are part of the Purdue Extension Nutrition Education Program (NEP).  Community Wellness Coordinators (CWCs) collaborate with community partners to help people eat smart and move more by focusing on five specific areas:

  • Food resource management (stretching food dollars)
  • Food safety
  • Food security (hunger)
  • Nutrition
  • Physical activity

A CWC assesses and helps meet community needs through planning, creating or implementing health and wellness initiatives.  This work is accomplished at the policy, system and environment (PSE) level and has included the following types of initiatives:

  • Health coalitions
  • Community gardens
  • School and workplace wellness
  • Healthy corner stores
  • Trails and parks
  • Farm to school
  • Farmers markets
  • Active living
  • Food access
  • Food pantries
