What We Do

Purdue Extension Health and Human Sciences (HHS Extension) delivers educational programs, applied research and resources to our community, with a focus on issues related to food, family, money and health. HHS Extension provides education to individuals and communities in each of Indiana's diverse counties. We bring university information to the local level - both in person and online - to help people strengthen relationships, eat smart, improve health and achieve financial wellness.

Matter of Balance Logo

Matter of Balance Series

Many older adults experience concerns about falling and restrict their activities. Learn how to view falls as controllable, set goals for increasing activity levels, make changes to reduce fall risks at home, and exercise to increase strength and balance. Classes are held every Monday and Wednesday, for 4 weeks from 10:30 AM - 12:30 PM. This program is being held at the North Webster Library, located at 110 E North St, North Webster. Registration is required. Smartphone & Tablet Basics (2-Part Program)

If you have an interest in learning about smartphone and tablet basics, you won’t want to miss this two-part educational series! Participants will learn how to connect to Wi-Fi, use Password Keeper, add and delete apps, utilize the Cloud, create ICE contacts, and explore the basics of their device’s camera. Participants will need to bring their smartphone and/or tablet with them to engage in hands-on practice. Remember to bring your charger or have your device fully charged prior to class. If you have an Apple device, please bring your Apple ID log in and password with you. Feel free to come with questions about your device. This program is being held at the Warsaw Community Public Library, located at 310 E Main St, Warsaw. Identity Theft: What's in you Bag?

Identity theft can happen to anyone, but there are some precautions you can take to reduce your risk. This interactive program will make you aware of how much personal information you carry with you every day,

Keeping Track of Your Health Information

Your health information is delivered to you from a variety of sources. Your wearable device can provide daily updates of your health. You also receive valuable information verbally from your health care provider, patient portals, insurance company and pharmacy. ServSafe

The ServSafe Food Handler course is designed for individuals who need essential training in food safety and handling. This includes home-based vendors, food service employees, volunteers, and anyone else working with food who only requires basic knowledge.

Please note: This course is not intended for food service managers. If you need a manager-level certification, you’ll need to complete the ServSafe Food Protection Manager course and pass the corresponding exam.

The Food Handler course meets the training requirements for home-based vendors (HBVs) as outlined in Indiana House Bill 1149.

Participants will learn about key food safety principles, including:

  • Basic food safety
  • Personal hygiene
  • Cross-contamination and allergens
  • Time and temperature control
  • Cleaning and sanitation

The full 1-day training includes a manual and proctored exam. You must score 70 percent or greater to earn the certificate. The certification is valid for five (5) years. A photo ID with signature is required to take the exam (driver license, state ID, student ID, military ID, employee ID, U.S. green card or valid passport).
