What We Do

Purdue Extension Health and Human Sciences (HHS Extension) delivers educational programs, applied research and resources to our community, with a focus on issues related to food, family, money and health. HHS Extension provides education to individuals and communities in each of Indiana's diverse counties. We bring university information to the local level - both in person and online - to help people strengthen relationships, eat smart, improve health and achieve financial wellness.

Cooking Under Pressure

Cooking Under Pressure is a one (1) hour program about Electric Programmable Pressure Cookers (EPPC). Techniques on using the EPPC, food safety and increasing family meal time are a few of the highlights. Cooking with an Air Fryer

Are you considering whether an air fryer would be beneficial for your kitchen or do you already have an air fryer, but aren't sure how to use it? Learn about the features and benefits of different models and how to safely operate them. Offered November 9th at 7:00 p.m., in-person at the Milford Public Library, 101 North Main St, Milford. Avoid Holiday Burnout

While it's the most wonderful time of the year for some, it can be dreaded for others. The holidays bring pressure and obligations and there are individuals who don't handle either of those well, thus sending them into bouts of anxiety or depression. This program will give tips and tricks on how to prioritize self-care and overall a healthy well-being. Offered November 15th at 12:00 p.m., in-person at the Kosciusko County Fairgrounds - Home & Family Arts Building, 1400 East Smith St, Warsaw. It's dinner time...do you know what you're having? Meal planning and preparation require time and energy. Come learn how to plan healthy meals without breaking the bank. ServSafe Food Manager

ServSafe educates food service workers about food safety. ServSafe Food Protection Manager is their highest certification. It satisfies Indiana requirements to become a Certified Food Protection manager and focuses on five aspects:

  • Foodborne microorganisma and allergens
  • Personal hygiene
  • Purchasing, receivng and storage
  • Preparing, cooking and serving
  • Facilities, cleaning/sanitation and managing pests

The full 1-day training includes a manual and proctored exam. You must score 70 percent or greater to earn the certificate. The certification is valid for five (5) years. A photo ID with signature is required to take the exam (driver license, state ID, student ID, military ID, employee ID, U.S. green card or valid passport).
