By May 15 each year, 4-H’ers in grades 3-12 will need to take either the YQCA (online) or the Floyd County 4-H Quality Livestock Assurance Training (in-person) before showing animals in the Floyd County Fair. Training is not needed for Horse, Pony, Dog, Llama and Alpaca.
What is the difference between YQCA & 4-H Quality Livestock Care Training?
YQCA (Youth Quality Care of Animals) is for those showing animals all year round. This is only offered online at https://yqcaprogram.org/ Once taken, it is the 4-H'ers responsibility to email a completed certificate to denglema@purdue.edu or bring a printed certificate to the Floyd County Extension office by May 15 so we can record training in your 4-H profile. State requirement -No exceptions.
Indiana 4-H Quality Livestock Care Training (QLC) is for those showing at a county level. Training is $3 and only offered in-person in early spring (see Upcoming Events tab for training dates). Bring exact cash or a check made payable to the Purdue CES Ed Fund. 4-H'ers must register in 4-H Online under Events before the deadline. Those taking training with Sam are not required to provide proof of training to the Floyd County Extension office, as attendance will be recorded when 4-H’ers sign in upon arrival. Be sure to sign in! A certificate of completion will be awarded at the end of training. Please log into 4-H profile under the TRAININGS tab to verify your training was recorded for the current year in your 4-H profile. If training is taken at another county, 4-H'er must submit certificate of completion to denglema@purdue.edu or bring a printed certificate to the Floyd County Extension office by May 15.
For more information on this process, please contact your specie superintendent or 4-H Extension Educator, Sam McCollum.
