The Purdue Extension Local Government group has made a New Year’s Resolution to read A Good Tax: Legal and Policy Issues for the Property Tax in the United States by Joan Youngman. Published by the Lincoln Institute of Land Policy, this book delves into everything to do with the property tax from history to components to various uses. Ignore the title; it’s hard to argue with property tax as a cornerstone of local government funding throughout our nation.

Youngman makes the case quickly for understanding the impacts of different elements of this widely used tax to inform debate and future policy concerning property taxes. Join us as we read and blog about a chapter every other week. We’ll post a synopsis and additional data or articles specific to Indiana. So grab your copy of The Good Tax and read Chapter 1 by our next post the second week of February.
