Cindy Barber Wins Two Awards!
Daviess County Purdue Community Development Extension Educator Cindy Barber was the recipient of two awards last week in honor of her community development work over the past year.
During Purdue Extension’s Professional Development Conference, Cindy was awarded the Indiana Extension Educator Association (IEEA) Community Development award for her efforts conducting the 4th Annual Daviess County Legislative VIP Event. This event represents a valuable opportunity to gather local, state and federal public officials to highlight Purdue Extension and its partnerships. Over 60 officials attend each year.
This year’s keynote on Extension and Leadership was given by Indiana Farm Bureau President Don Villwock.
Closer to home, Cindy was recognized for her efforts in founding the Leadership Daviess County program during the annual Daviess County Chamber of Commerce/Economic Development Corporation joint banquet. The Washington Times Herald reported the following:
“Shanon O’Toole, incoming vice-president for the Chamber Board in 2016, made the Hagel Award presentation to Barber. ‘Not only has she worked hard to establish the Leadership Daviess County Program, but she also lives it,’ O’Toole said.

Barber serves on several local committees and organizations, including a leadership role in Indiana Extension Educators Association, Daviess County Career Success Coalition and PACE Board of Directors, and she is currently serving on the City of Washington’s Bicentennial 2016 Steering Committee and its Quality of Life Committee. Barber is also a Junior Achievement and CASA volunteer and may be most well-known for her promotion of Daviess County’s most infamous landmark, the “round barn” on S.R. 57 just south of Washington, built by her maternal great-grandfather. Barber credits her love for the barn for bringing her to Daviess County where she has put down roots.
