Board Development
Purdue Extension can provide customized training and facilitation for nonprofit and local government boards and the staff who work with them.
Purdue Extension works with many prospective volunteers across the state to build their knowledge, skills, and confidence to serve on nonprofit and civic boards. Through our Community Leadership Program, 4-H Volunteer, Master Gardener leadership trainings and more, we help groups to focus on the purpose, structure and process of board activities and coach them through the board development cycle.
Depending on your organization’s needs, Purdue Extension can sometimes assist with facilitating visioning, goal-setting, and strategic planning. We can also help teach you to lead these through the Facilitative Leadership workshop!

Serving on Nonprofit Boards
Serving on Nonprofit Boards is a three-hour, in-person workshop designed to inform community members about their roles and responsibilities as volunteers on nonprofit boards. The program covers the phases of the Board Development Cycle, focusing on board member recruitment, engagement, and renewal. Community members with a variety of board experiences—from novices to seasoned volunteers--will learn from each other during this interactive workshop.
Speed Networking for Nonprofits and Volunteers
In this high-energy networking experience, representatives from nonprofits and prospective community volunteers are matched up for short conversations to learn about each other. Each volunteer can share their interests and skills with each nonprofit. Each nonprofit can share their mission and opportunities with each volunteer.
