WHITLEY COUNTY 4-H AWARDS AND SCHOLARSHIPS

Every year the Whitley County 4-H Program has various awards and scholarships available for its 4-H members to apply for.  Listed below is a description of each of these awards.  Please click on the button to download the application.

 

B.V. WIDNEY MEMORIAL AWARD  (Administered by 4-H Leaders)           May 1 deadline

This award will be given to any current 4-H member in grades 6th – 9th as of January 1st.   Selection will be based on 50% 4-H involvement and 50% questions.  Award criteria and questions will be made available at the Extension Office. Please submit the application in a folder to the Extension Office by Wednesday, May 1, 2024. 

All applicants will be contacted to attend the 4-H Awards Recognition Program on Sunday, May 19, 2024 where the winner will be announced.

 2024 B.V. Widney Memorial Award Application 

 

HESTER ADAMS MEMORIAL AWARD (Administered by 4-H Council)          May 1 deadline

This award will be given to any current 4-H member in 10th grade and above.  Number of awards given will be determined by the number of applications received with a maximum of 6 awards.

  • Hester Adams Award winners: (2)  will receive $500 scholarships, recognition shirts to wear while helping at shows during the fair, and names on a plaque
  • Hester Adams Ambassadors: (2) will receive $250 scholarships and recognition shirts to wear while helping at shows during the fair
  • Hester Adams Honorees: (2) will receive $100 scholarships and recognition shirts to wear while helping at shows during the fair

 The award will be based on the following criteria:

                        40%      4-H Involvement - offices held, volunteering, number of years in projects, placings, showmanship participation, meetings attended, etc.

                        30%      Interview – 10 to 15 minutes long

                        15%      Resume (involvement of non 4-H activities will be noted in resume)

                        15%      Essay

4-H involvement information, resume and essay must be submitted to the Extension Office by Wednesday, May 1, 2024.  Contact the Extension Office for essay topic.  Interviews will be scheduled for Monday, May 6, 2024.

All applicants will be contacted to attend the 4-H Awards Recognition Program on Sunday, May 19, 2024 where the winner will be announced.

 NOTE:  A 4-H member may only win the Hester Adams Memorial award one time during his/her 4-H tenure

 2024 Hester Adams Memorial Award Application 

 

JIM TEGHTMEYER MEMORIAL AWARD               May 1 deadline

This award is given to a 4-H’er currently in Grade 12 with outstanding community service.  Applicants must fill out an application and submit it to the Extension Office by Wednesday, May 1, 2024.  A Selection Committee will judge applications.

All applicants will be contacted to attend the 4-H Awards Recognition Program on Sunday, May 19, 2024 where the winner will be announced.

Award is based on the following:

  • Community service projects in 4-H.
  • Community service projects in other organizations.
  • 4-H offices and committees served on.
  • Other activities.

 2024 Jim Teghtmeyer Memorial Award 

 

LESTER & JOY WORRICK MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP               May 1 deadline 

This $500 scholarship will be awarded to ONE Whitley County 4-H’er who is currently a 10-year 4-H member that will be pursuing a post-secondary education at a college, university or other similar institution.  The 4-H member must be active not only in 4-H, but also in the community.  Applicants must fill out an application and submit it to the Extension Office by Wednesday, May 1, 2024. 

All applicants will be contacted to attend the 4-H Awards Recognition Program on Sunday, May 19, 2024 where the winner will be announced.

2024 Lester & Joy Worrick Memorial Scholarship Application

 

HELPING HANDS 4-H ENDOWMENT FUND                     May 1 deadline                         

This is a $500 scholarship available to all 4-H’ers continuing their education at some post-secondary level.  It was started in 1997 through the generosity of several 4-H families and community supporters.  Applications are available at the Extension Office. Applicants must fill out an application and submit it to the Extension Office by Wednesday, May 1, 2024. 

Award winner will be contacted and will attend 4-H Awards Recognition on Sunday, May 19, 2023. The winner will also be recognized during the Parade of Champions at the 4-H Fair.

2024 Helping Hands 4-H Endowment Fund Application

 

WHITLEY COUNTY EXTENSION HOMEMAKERS 4-H SCHOLARSHIP               May 1 deadline

Whitley County Extension Homemakers sponsor a $500 scholarship each year to a 4-H’er who has completed a least five years of 4-H.  Applications are available at the Extension Office. Applicants must fill out an application and mail to the chairperson (contact information is noted on the application) by Wednesday, May 1, 2023. 

All applicants will be contacted to attend the 4-H Awards Recognition Program on Sunday, May 19, 2024 where the winner will be announced.
