Local Government Leadership Workshop Explains Election Process Requirements
Lake County Extension collaborated with the Lake County Clerk’s office and the Board of Elections & Registration to present the “Local Government Leadership: Running for Office” workshop on January 7, 2020.
24 community members attended the session, held in the Purdue Extension building. Participants learned about the election process and the required forms for candidacy filing from County Clerk Lorenzo Arredondo, Board of Elections Director Michelle Fajman and Assistant Director LeAnn Angerman during the two-hour workshop. Community Development educator Lupe Valtierra facilitated the workshop, which included a discussion of the ethics involved when one runs for public office. A panel discussion during the workshop also addressed questions ranging from “how firm are filing deadlines” to “‘who can challenge someone else’s ability to be on the ballot” from participants. An evaluation of the workshop showed that 23 participants reported an increase in their awareness, skills or knowledge of the election process.
