Purdue Extension: Expert Resources for COVID-19

Dining with Diabetes Educational Series

January 11, 2021

Diabetes is a very serious and costly health condition, but research has shown that those who learn to manage their blood glucose levels, exercise regularly, and eat healthy can lower their risks of complications and lead a healthier and more productive life.

Purdue Extension Elkhart County is offering the statewide Dining with Diabetes series in March. Dining with Diabetes is a weekly class that runs for four weeks. The four classes will be offered as morning sessions or evening sessions virtually on Tuesday, March 2nd, 9th, 16th, and 23rd. The morning session is from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm. Evening sessions are from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm. All classes will be held virtually through Zoom. A follow-up session will take place in June; date to be announced.

The class is open to those with diabetes, and their family members and caretakers. The series costs $25/person and includes a notebook and printed materials. Pre-registration is required and participants are encouraged to attend all class sessions.

Virginia Aparicio, Extension Educator in Health and Human Sciences for Elkhart County, will teach participants how to prepare meals that are healthy, easy to prepare, and tasty. Recipes will be demonstrated and participants will have the opportunity to follow along at home. Participants will also learn up-to-date information on nutrition, meal planning, exercise, and how to understand common diabetes related medical tests.

Registration forms may be downloaded from our website at http://www.extension.purdue.edu/elkhart under the Dining with Diabetes section or can be picked up at the Purdue Extension Elkhart County office.
