Elisa Worland is the Community Development and Health & Human Sciences educator for Wayne County Extension. She earned her B.A. in Government and Spanish from Smith College. She went on to pursue a master’s in social work from Portland State University, with a focus on community-based practice. In addition to her work with individuals experiencing mental health struggles, she also has also provided services to adults with developmental disabilities, domestic violence survivors, and unhoused individuals.
Prior to extension, she served in the Peace Corps in Paraguay. Her service included providing technical assistance to Arovia, the first national government volunteer program for young professionals in Paraguay. She created the first draft of their manual, Jarovia, a collection of tools for social innovation and community engagement. It was published digitally in December 2021 and has been utilized in training community health workers across Paraguay.
Elisa has experience with program development, training design, facilitation, systems thinking, and non-formal adult education. She serves on our Beginner’s Guide to Grant Writing and Facilitation teams and is on the curriculum team for Taking Action to Address Substance Use in Communities (TASC). She is passionate about supporting communities to be more sustainable, innovative, and healthy.
