4-H Animal Tagging Day

** All Beef Steers and Dairy Steers born before January 1, 2022 are required to attend this day. Other cattle are also welcome if they prefer to come this day instead of the May tagging.**

  • 1 pm- 2 pm- Beef Cattle
  • 2 pm- 3 pm- Dairy Cattle
  • Note: If you have both, you can come at any time with all of them.

Important: Animals required to attend this day MUST have ID info entered into 4HOnline by May 15.

 

May 14, 2022 Schedule: FAIRGROUNDS

  • 8 am - 10 am: Sheep at the Swine Barn
  • 8 am - 10 am: Rabbit Tattooing at the Rabbit Barn
  • 8 am- 10 am: Swine at the Show Arena
  • 9 am- 10 am : Beef Heifers at the back of the Cattle Barn
  • 10 am- 11 am: Goats at the Swine Barn
  • 10 am - 11 am: Dairy Steers and Dairy Females at the back of the Cattle Barn

NOTE: Tagging day is 1 day before the Animal ID Deadline for 4HOnline. Onsite trailer parking and animal identification assistance will be available at the Community Building on tagging day. We encourage you to utilize this time and opportunity wisely.

This will be a busy day at the fairgrounds. Please watch for pedestrians and follow signs directing traffic to the appropriate routes to each location. 

COVID Safety Related Items:

  • If you are not feeling well or have COVID 19 symptoms, we ask you not attend this day. Reach out to the office to coordinate different arrangements.
  • Please remain at your vehicle with your animals until it is your turn for tagging. This will help us maintain social distancing. 
  • If you are not maintaining a six-foot social distance, we ask you consider wearing a face covering. 

Species Details:

Beef

  • All Steers are required to attend the February Tagging. They must have an RFID Tag and a 5 digit county tag. They will be weighed for Rate of Gain.
  • All Beef Heifers that did not come to the Springville Weigh-in and intend to show at the Lawrence County 4-H Fair, must come. 
  • No need to bring Cow Calf pairs, but you will still need to enter them in FairEntry.
  • Tags are $3 each. Those requiring an RFID tag and a 5 digit county tag will need two tags per animal (for example: steers and crossbred heifers)
  • Potential State Fair cattle will be given DNA envelopes that must be turned into the office by May 15.

Cat

  • No Cats should attend this day.
  • See the Cat Club page for all details on what is required

Dairy

  • All Steers born before January 1 are required to attend the February Tagging if they need tags or will participate in Rate of Gain. They must have an RFID Tag and a 5 digit county tag.
  • All Dairy Females that do not have an RFID tag can get their tag here
  • All Dairy Steers born after January 1 are required to attend May tagging.
  • There will be a June tagging for steer calves that are too young or not born by May tagging.
  • Potential State Fair cattle will be given DNA envelopes that must be turned into the office by May 15

Dogs

  • No dogs should come on this day
  • Be sure you have completed your vet papers before May 15

Goats

  • Goats need to attend this session if they:
    • need a tag (check the handbook for proper identification information)
    • will be participating in rate-of-gain (wethers)
  • Note: No tattoos will be done this day. If you do not have proper identification in your animal, a tag will be inserted. 
  • Potential State Fair animals will be given DNA envelopes that must be turned into the office by May 15.

Horse and Pony

  • No horses should attend this day.
  • Be sure your animals are registered in 4HOnline by May 15.
  • Turn in all lease agreements to the office by May 15.
  • Turn in all Vaccination forms to the office by May 15.

Poultry

  • No Poultry should attend this day. 
  • Mandatory Blood Testing will be announced soon, at the Poultry Barn.
  • All ownership papers will be completed at blood testing.
  • Bring started ownership papers to blood testing.  Click here for ownership form on Poultry Club page.

Rabbits

  • This day is not required for all rabbits, but if you do not have a tattoo yet, you should plan to attend.
  • Instead of the traditional ownership papers, exhibitors should enter their Rabbit Identification information in 4HOnline by May 15
  • You will need to select your rabbit classes in FairEntry when it opens.

Sheep

  • You must declare at this weigh-in if your ewe lamb will be shown as a market lamb or breeding stock
  • Tags are $3 each.
  • We will be completing tagging and weighing. 
  • Ewes previously shown at our fair do not need to attend.
  • Potential State Fair animals will be given DNA envelopes that must be turned into the office by May 15.

Swine

  • All swine are required to come.
  • Tags are $3 each.  (Club covers the cost of up to six tags per member.)
  • Potential State Fair swine will be given DNA envelopes that must be turned into the office by May 15.

You are not done after tagging!!!

  • Don't forget to enter all of your animal information in 4HOnline. All details on how to do this can be found below.
  • Between May 18 and June 20, you will need to enter all of your exhibit information (animals and exhibit hall) in FairEntry. 
  • Also, be sure you have read the Lawrence County 4-H Handbook for all details related to your project.
