State Fair Entries: For Cats, Dogs, Llama/Alpaca, Poultry and Rabbits Only
This project is designed for those 4-H members who would prefer to do a poster or who do not own livestock. Species included in the project are Beef, Cats, Dairy, Dog, Goat, Horse & Pony, Llama/Alpacas, Poultry, Rabbit, Sheep and Swine.
Level 1: (Grades 3-5)
Level 2: (Grades 6-8)
Level 3: (Grades 9-12)
Cat Poster Suggestions
Exhibit Requirements: Use a 22"x 28" poster board with a stiff backing and a clear protective covering. Posters should be displayed horizontally. A poster label secured from the County Extension Office should be filled out and securely attached to the lower right- hand corner of the poster exhibit.
Suggested topics: The following suggestions are ideas for development of educational cat poster. 4-Hers need not be limited by or to just these mentioned topics.
Juniors - cat care, cat breeds, litter-training, treating my cat with care and respect, cat responsibilities, grooming skills, training my cat, neutering/spaying, determining cat costs, traveling with my cat, my cat’s safety.
Intermediates - national cat fancier associations, a cat clinic, training with extra praise, careers related to cats, should my cat have kittens?, feeding my cat, things I’ve learned, insect pests, symptoms of ill health, my visiting pet therapy program, cats get old too!, saying good-bye.
Seniors - understanding a cat show, planning a cat business, cat genetics, cat organs and systems, exploring careers, learning about leadership, teaching others, having fun learning, protecting our environment, issues of animal welfare/rights.
Dog Poster Suggestions
Purpose: To promote an educational, creative, dog related 4-H exhibit. Contact your county extension office regarding State Fair entry of dog posters.
A dog poster should be designed to teach those who view it, about the selected topic. 4-Hers are encouraged to seek assistance from their 4-H Dog program leaders, the County Extension Office staff, the Internet, and the Public Library. Posters must be 22" x 28" highlighting an educational topic about dogs, displayed horizontally with a stiff backing, and a clear protective covering.
Llama/Alpaca Poster Suggestions
Posters will be judged on theme, construction, style, and language. Posters must have been constructed within one (1) year of exhibit and must follow general state poster guidelines.
Each poster must have been made by the 4-H member enrolled in the current year’s 4-H program.
Size – 22” x 28”, displayed horizontally with stiff backing and covered with plastic accompanied by a name tag in the lower front right hand corner.
Poultry Poster Suggestions
Exhibits must be entered on the State Fair activity form (available from the County Extension Office) and the form signed by the respective Extension educator.
Each exhibit must be clearly labeled in the lower right hand corner with the 4-H’ers name. (Appropriate State Fair labels may be obtained from County Extension Office.)
Posters are to be 22”x28” and displayed horizontal, but a 3-dimensional exhibit is preferred for poultry science projects. Poultry science displays must occupy a space no larger than 30” deep x 48” wide x 72” high
Rabbit Poster Suggestions
Each Indiana county may annually exhibit a maximum of one (1) entry in each of the three (3) levels of the poster contest.
Each poster must have been made by the 4-H member enrolled in the current year's 4-H program.
Size - 22" x 28", displayed horizontally with stiff backing and covered with plastic, accompanied by a name tag in the lower front right hand corner. 4. Each 4-H rabbit poster should be original and of a practical nature related to some phase of the domestic rabbit industry. Elaborate and expensive equipment cannot be justified.
