Food and Growers Association (FGA) hosted their 9th annual conference on February 7, 2015, in Batesville. The conference had more than 70 in attendance and featured educational seminars, ranging from using herbs as food and medicine to farm diversification in the morning. HUSK Food entrepreneurs Chris Baggott and Nick Carter served as keynote speakers and discussed how they made their journey to locally sustainable food in regional market outlets such as Kroger and Meijer stores. The afternoon concluded with Purdue Extension’s Jodee Ellett sharing a bit on rebuilding the food system as well as Purdue Extension’s Heather Strohm and Tanya Hall assisting FGA with a strategic planning and input session from the members and public attendance. Heather and Tanya will be working with FGA over the next few months to develop a strategic plan and action items for the local food movement in the Batesville region.
