Purdue Extension Johnson County Programs...

Read, Taste, & Touch of Agriculture (RT2) is open to anyone interested in enhancing their child’s learning experience. The primary purpose of RT2 is to promote reading, good nutrition, and agriculture awareness among preschool and young elementary-aged children. The books and activities are targeted to children ages 5 to 7.

What does it cost: Nothing. Every public library in Johnson County has at least one copy of the books on the RT2 reading list. The RT2 Celebration is held during county Fair week annually and is free to both parent and child. We do need the child(ren) registered to participate in the RT2 Celebration by calling the Purdue Extension Johnson County Office at 317-736-3724

RT2 Celebration: During the Monday through Friday of the Johnson County 4-H and Agricultural Fair, the Purdue Extension Johnson County Staff and volunteer offer the RT2 Celebration. Each day of a fair, a different farm animal or product is featured with a hands-on program where the child can listen to a farm related story, make a craft, sample a snack related to the story and visit the featured animal during a barn tour. We offer each program two times each day, at 10 AM and again at 2 PM.  See RT2 Brochure for exact dates, times and featured book.

Monthly Newsletters: Starting in September, each child will receive a monthly RT2 Activity Newsletter that feature a new book each month. We encourage parents to visit their local library and read the book to their child. The Read, Taste and Touch of Agriculture Books should be located in the Children’s Departments in all Johnson County Public Libraries thanks to a grant through the Johnson County Community Foundation.
