YQCA in 2020: YQCA is a REQUIREMENT for those planning to exhibit at the Indiana State Fair. Visit http://yqca.org/ to register for an online class. We will not be able to offer face-to-face YQCA classes in 2020. Youth are still encouraged to enroll in a YQCA class in 2020, even if you do not go to State Fair.
For 2020 ONLY, we will be able to offer two other animal ethics programs for you to choose from. You can choose to complete one of the following options below before exhibiting your animals virtually. YQCA will not be a requirement for county only animals in 2020.
Option 1: Indiana 4-H Animal Ethics Program - The purpose of the Indiana 4-H Livestock Program is to provide real-life educational opportunities that allow youth to develop livestock skills and learn about animal-related careers, and more importantly to learn what it means to be responsible for something other than themselves. The main goal of the 4-H livestock program is to ensure 4-H members are learning to ethically raise, care for, and exhibit their animals to meet current food safety guidelines. The goals of this program include:
o Provide a foundation for 4-H families to start a conversation about livestock ethics
o Ensure 4-H parents and adult mentors realize they are representatives of a larger livestock industry
o Ensure animals in the Indiana 4-H Program are treated with the utmost care.
o Visit https://bit.ly/PurdueAnimalEthicsProgram to complete the four modules
Option 2: Read through the enclosed “Character Connection: Production Livestock” publication.
Once you have completed one of the three options above, send an email to Richard Beckort at rbeckort@purdue.edu and let us know what you learned. Be sure to attach the YQCA certificate to your email if you complete that option. This information is due by Friday, July 17th. We will publish some of these statements so the community can see the impact 4-H Animal Projects have on teaching our youth.
