The 4-H Program relies heavily on our dedicated volunteers to make it the best! There are many different types of volunteers, with varying degrees of involvement and time commitment, but we need them all to make Franklin County 4-H work! All of our volunteers must go through an application and screening process and renew their commitment annually.
The 4-H Horse and Pony Project provides youth a fun and hands-on learning experience that develops life skills, as well as teaches valuable information about properly caring for their animal. Subjects such as general management, training, nutrition, housing, and health care are presented in the curricular materials, through workshops and activities such as horse bowl, Hippology and judging, and in preparation of an exhibit. Mini 4-H is a program designed to encourage positive development of children in first and second grade. The goal of the Mini 4-H program is to help young children explore friendships outside the family, explore the way in which things work, practice both small and large muscle control, and think about the ways people work together on projects.
The 4-H shooting sports project teaches safe operation of firearms and archery equipment. Volunteer instructors must be certified at a workshop. Three disciplines are offered in Franklin County, they are: archery, rifle, and shotgun.
