Weed Identification

Description: The county weed project will help youth learn about various weeds in a safe manner. Youth are encouraged to be careful when collecting samples.

Project Guidelines:

Beginner: Grades 3-5 (suggested)

Exhibit an age-appropriate poster using one of the options below following the established poster policy. 

Intermediate: Grades 6-8 (suggested)

Exhibit an age-appropriate poster using one of the options below following the established poster policy. 

Advanced: Grades 9-12 (suggested)

Exhibit an age-appropriate poster using one of the options below following the established poster policy. 

Options:

Option A:  Collect and mount 1 weed specimen [see pub.4-H 247 -W ] on poster [see poster guidelines county handbook]. Show flower and or fruit, leaf, stem and root characteristics. Include name of weed [common and scientific] where found [lawn, garden, pasture, etc.] how it reproduces.  Control methods . annual, biannual, perennial

Option B: Make a poster showing 1 noxious weed using above guidelines; no specimen                                                                             

Option C: Make a poster showing 1 poisonous weed using above guidelines; no specimen                                                              

Option D:  Make a poster showing  3 different weed seeds using above guidelines;  collect specimens                                            

Option E: Make a poster showing 3 different plants that are edible and considered to be weeds show edible parts, where found, collect specimens
