Why should you test your soil?

Soil testing every 3-5 years is a good way to make sure your lawn and garden are getting the nutrients they need to thrive. Testing can be done at any time of year, but it’s a good idea to test in fall or early spring so that you can plan your fertility program for the following growing season.

We test for organic matter, phosphorus, potassium, pH, magnesium, calcium, cation exchange capacity, and base saturation.

Different nutrient/contaminant panels are available for an additional fee.

Sampling Procedure

Tricia Herr, ANR Educator, collects the sample at your property. Tricia can schedule Monday-Friday between 8:00 AM and 4:30 PM.

Sample Analysis

Samples are shipped to A&L Great Lakes in Fort Wayne, IN for analysis. Samples typically take 7-10 business days to process.

Once samples have been analyzed, results are reported to Tricia. She will help you interpret your results and make application recommendations (if necessary).

The first sample is $40, which includes shipping, analysis, and results. Each additional sample is $10. One sample is sufficient for most gardens.
