Youth for Quality Care of Animals

NEW REQUIREMENT THIS YEAR!
YQCA Training

In order to exhibit beef, goats, poultry, rabbits, sheep, or swine at the Warren County Fair and/or The Indiana State Fair, 4-H members are required to become Youth for the Quality Care of Animals (YQCA) Certified.

There are four age groups within YQCA. These refer to the age of the youth as of January 1, 2020.  Junior-ages 8-11; Intermediate-ages 12-14; Senior-ages 15-18 and Young Adults-ages 19-21. Certifications are good for one year. 4-H Youth ages 8-18 may obtain certification by attending in-person trainings at a cost of $3.  These in-person trainings are offered all over the state of Indiana between now and fair season. Youth of any age may opt to obtain their certification by completing an online training.  Online training for certification cost $12. Youth do not have to take the training in their home county. To find a listing of current available trainings and to register, visit the yqca.org website, log in with your 4-H online password and then search for trainings. The following YQCA trainings are currently planned for Warren and Benton Counties:

Tuesday March 17th 6-8 pm Pine Village Elementary Gymnasium in Pine Village, IN

Tuesday March 24th 9-11 am Benton County Annex in Fowler, IN

Tuesday March 24th 6-8 pm Benton County Annex in Fowler, IN

There will be additional training dates and locations added in the coming months.

There is a test out option available to youth seeking certification on-line.  This test out is only available to youth who are in the first year of Intermediate, Senior or Young Adult.  In other words, this test out option is only available to youth who were 12, 15 or 19 years of age on January 1, 2020.  This test out option is not available for youth in the Junior (8-11) category.  These tests as well as the online training, are available by logging in to your YQCA account at yqca.org using the same login and password as you use for 4-H Online.  The test consists of 50 questions and requires an 80% or better to pass.  Youth will be allowed only one attempt to pass the test.  If you pass the test, then you will be asked to make payment which will be $36 for intermediates and Young Adults ($12 x 3 years) or $48 for Seniors ($12 x 4 years).  If you take the test and fail, you will need to complete the online course or attend an approved YQCA training in person.

Animal Project Points to Remember:

You can do any or all of the below for your exhibit.

Animal Posters

Were you planning to do an Animal Poster this year?  If so please remember that you will need to bring your animal poster (beef, goat, poultry, rabbit, sheep or swine) to be entered and judged on Saturday, June 6, 8:30-9:30 am at the Senior Center.  Your poster will be judged on Saturday morning and then be displayed in the animal barns beginning on Tuesday morning.
