The 18th Annual Midwest Hair Sheep Sale is Saturday, October 5, 2024 at the Washington County Fairgrounds (118 Fair St., Salem, IN 47167) at 1:00 pm. The Washington County Sheep Association is accepting consignments until Saturday, September 7, 2024 on the required Consignment Form with payment.
2024 Consignment Form
General Sale Information:
- All consigned sheep must be born prior to April 15, 2024.
- Each consignor may consign up to two (2) individual rams.
- Consignors may consign up to two Starter Flocks. (Starter Flock includes 4 or 5 ewes plus 1 ram.) Bidders purchase for one price. Starter Flocks should be penned together during the sale.
- Consignors may consign individual ewes and up to two Pens of Ewes. (Pens of Ewes include 3 or 4 ewes of similar size and age.) Bidders purchase 3- or 4-times final bid.
- NO SUBSTITUTIONS WILL BE ALLOWED AFTER 9/7/24 – TAG # MUST MATCH CONSIGNMENT FORM.
- All consignment forms must include a premises ID. In Indiana a premises ID can be obtained from the Indiana Board of Animal Health at https://www.in.gov/boah/2642.htm. Scrapie tag numbers are not a premises ID. For premises ID information in other states contact that state’s board of animal health or similar organization.
- Minimum bids for ewes: $250 – commercial; $300 – registered. Incremental increase of $25 per bid.
- Minimum bids for rams: $300 – commercial; $350 – registered. Incremental increase of $25 per bid.
- No bids taken for less than minimum. Animals not selling in the sale may be available for private treaty.
- All consignments (listed on enclosed Consignment Form along with your consignment fee of $15/head) must be postmarked prior to September 2, so a consignment listing can be sent to all past buyers.
- No Late Consignments Accepted. Consignments fees are non-refundable.
- All sheep must have a valid Certificate of Veterinary Inspection (within 30 days) to give to the buyer. (If you have all your sheep listed on one certificate, you will need to BRING a copy for each sheep with that animal highlighted. The animal’s tag # MUST match your consignment form.)
- All sheep must be health inspected before unloading.
- All sheep must be penned and ready for viewing by 11 am EDT.
- Consignors are responsible for their own bedding and clean up. A $20 fee (per pen) will be deducted from consignor’s check for all uncleaned pens. (Wheelbarrows/Shovels Available)
- Registered animals must have registration papers available or guaranteed. Transfer fees should be paid by the seller. Consignors will be furnished with the name and address of the animal’s buyer.
- A sale booklet will be made as soon as complete.
- Mark on consignment sheet if any animals will be sold in lots. Example: Pen of Ewes – P1, P2; Starter Flock – F1, F2.
