Nutrition Education Program

NEP Overview

  • A part of Purdue Extension, with representation in every county of Indiana.
  • Funded primarily through the federal USDA’s Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program- Education Division (SNAP-Ed), and Expanded Food & Nutrition Education Program (EFNEP)
  • Works closely with other Purdue Extension Educators, Purdue College of Health and Human Sciences, and Purdue College of Agriculture.

  • Food Safety
  • Food Insecurity (hunger)
  • Food Resource Management (stretching food dollars)

 NEP Target Audiences

  • SNAP Recipients
  • Limited-Resource Individuals of All Ages
  • Schools with 50% or more Free & Reduced Lunch

Nutrition Education/ SNAP-Ed

  • Our research based-programming helps participants plan nutritious meals, be active, handle food safely, spend food dollars wisely, and improve food purchasing and preparation
  • NEP Advisors conduct nutrition and wellness lessons that take place throughout the community, including community centers, faith-based organizations, food pantries, and

 

Community Wellness Coordinators

  • Working with community partners on broader policies, systems, and environmental changes that relate to the five NEP Focus
  • These collaborating and coordinating efforts can occur on a neighborhood, township, or city- wide
  • Examples of the CWC work can include community health coalitions, urban gardens, active living strategies, worksite wellness, school wellness, and food access
