4-H Photography 2021 Changes

4-H PHOTOGRAPHY (Revised 10/20)

This project can turn an ordinary shutterbug into a talented photographer. Beginners may choose to exhibit black and white or colored prints or slides. The more advanced photographer may also choose black and white or color salon prints.

Project Rules

  1. ALL completed record sheets and manuals/activity books must be turned in to the  4-H Club leader by July 8, and must be securely attached in the green “Indiana 4-H Club Member’s Record Book.”
  2. If any part of your exhibit is on a poster, it must follow the poster rules stated in the front of this book. It is REQUIRED that all posters, notebooks, and display boards include a reference list indicating where information was obtained, giving credit tot the original author, to complete the 4-H member’s exhibit. This reference list should/might include website links, people and professionals interviewed, books, magazines, etc. It is recommended this reference list be attached to the back of a poster or display board, be the last page of a notebook, or included as part of the display visible to the public. A judge is not to discredit an exhibit for the manner in which references are listed.
  3. All images are to be original images taken by the 4-H member.
  4. Photos must have been taken since the last project entry date of the County Fair.
  5. Place standard label in the lower right hand corner on posters and salon     prints. Place your identification label on your board and under your plastic if at all possible.
  6. For black and white or color prints, number prints from 1 to 10. Prints may be displayed horizontally or vertically; however, the poster MUST be horizontal.
  7. Captions under your photographs are not recommended nor are fluorescent     posters.
  8. Salon prints are one print, either Black & White or Color, printed horizontally    or vertically. The print must be mounted on a standard 16 by 20 inch salon    mount, displayed vertically and covered with plastic. (These are available at    most photo and art supply stores.)
  9. Sepia tone photographs (mono chromatic) are entered under the Black and  White classes.
  10. Prints may be a mixture of digital and/or standard development.
  11. Pictures must be neatly and securely mounted. Dry mounting tissue is best.   Photo corners are not satisfactory as the pictures come out and become lost.    Rubber cement may also be used.

Note: Black and White film takes longer to develop than color - Make sure to allow plenty of time for developing.
