Northern Indiana Organic Forage Field Day

Mark your calendars for August 5, 2025, and plan to join your neighbors and fellow farmers for the Northern Indiana Organic Forage Field Day. This event will be held at the organic dairy farm of Andy and Laura Mast, located at 10572 County Road 18, Middlebury, Indiana, just southeast of Middlebury.

The field day kicks off at 8:30 a.m. and wraps up by 1:30 p.m., giving attendees the chance to learn from experts, exchange ideas, and see firsthand how others are tackling common challenges in organic forage production.

This event, hosted by the Indiana Organic Network, will focus on some of the most pressing issues organic farmers face today, including fly control, alfalfa weevil control, weed management, and improving forage quality. Along with informative talks, there will be a lively discussion session and a field walk, where participants can observe real-world examples and ask questions in the field.

We have two primary speakers for the event. Margaret Smith, an agronomist with Albert Lea Seeds, will speak on organic weed control. We also have Luciana de Costa of Ohio State give tips on fly control on organic farms.

It’s a great opportunity to connect with others in the organic community, learn new techniques, and gather ideas to take back to your own operation. Whether you’re a seasoned organic producer or just exploring the idea, everyone is welcome to attend. As always, the event will take place rain or shine, so come prepared.

Pre-registration is needed to plan for lunch. Lunch will be a feewill donation with proceeds benefiting the Special Ed program locally.  To sign up, call (260) 499-6334 or visit tinyurl.com/5bmr6fs3.

Please note, youth attending must be accompanied by a legal guardian. If you require an interpreter, translator, or have dietary or accessibility needs, contact Ashley Adair at (765) 496-6362 or holmes9@purdue.edu by July 22.

We hope to see you there for a morning of learning, networking, and good conversation.
