A team of Purdue Extension Educators and Specialists recently completed work on updating the policies and application procedures for the Purdue Master Gardener Program. The policies are now compiled in the Purdue Master Gardener Program Policy Guide (Purdue Extension publication MG-5-W).
Michael O'Donnell, Extension Educator, Agriculture and Natural Resources, and Purdue MG Coordinator for Delaware County, delivered a presentation outlining the new policies and procedures to the Delaware County MG Association (DCMGA) at their monthly meeting on January 28, 2015 at Minnetrista (click here to download the slides from his presentation). The presentation provides information on why the policies were updated, who was responsible for the policy guide, where you can find more information, when the policy takes effect (September 15, 2014), and details on the various provisions of the new policy.
The Guide includes the Purdue Master Gardener Volunteer Application and Agreement form that all existing and potential Purdue Master Gardeners must sign and return to the Purdue Extension-Delaware County office. The form must be presented with a photo ID when first completed. We ask that existing Purdue Master Gardeners in Delaware County please complete this requirement before April 22, 2015. This form will need to be signed and returned to the Extension office on an annual basis moving forward, with a deadline of December 31 of each year (including 2015).
Please note that the annual minimum requirement of volunteer (12) and continuing education (6) hours is unchanged in this new policy. Purdue Master Gardeners in Delaware County can record volunteer and continuing education hours online or by submitting a detailed paper record. If you need login information for the hours website, please contact the Purdue Extension-Delaware County office.
The new policy defines how to resume active status in the program following a lapse of service of 4 years or less, and greater than 4 years. For those who have lapsed in service, please contact the Purdue Extension-Delaware County office to discuss the steps needed to resume participation in the Purdue MG Program.
If you are unsure of your status in the program, please give us a call at the office.
Your interest and future contributions as a Purdue Master Gardener are greatly appreciated by Purdue Extension, residents of Delaware County, and the communities of Delaware County that benefit from your efforts!
