Forest Management for the Private Woodland Owner Series

Washington County was selected as the host site for the 2023 Forest Management for the Private Woodland Owner program series offered by Purdue Extension.  The program is sponsored by Purdue University Department of Forestry & Natural Resources, Indiana Department of Natural Resources Division of Forestry, Purdue Extension – Washington County, and the Washington County Soil & Water Conservation District.

 Forest Management for the Private Woodland Owner is a Purdue University short course providing knowledge and resources to help landowners make informed decisions in the care and management of their woodlands.  The course is eight Tuesday evenings, February 14 through April 4, 2023, from 6:00-9:00 pm and a field tour on Saturday, March 18, 2023 from 9:00 am – 12:00 pm.  Tuesday evening sessions are held in the meeting room of the Washington County Government Building (806 Martinsburg Rd.) in Salem. 

 The course is limited to 40 participants on a first come, first serve basis.  The registration fee is $50.  Additional family members may participate for $30 per person.  Registration fees include: classroom instruction from forestry specialists, thumb drive of forestry publications, tree measuring stick, course materials, and snacks.  Registration forms (see attachment below) and payment must be submitted to the Purdue Extension – Washington County office (806 Martinsburg Rd., Suite 104 in Salem) by Tuesday, February 7, 2023.  Make checks payable to: Purdue CES – Wash. Co. 

 Thanks to generous support from the Washington County Soil & Water Conservation District, Washington County landowners may qualify for registration fee reimbursement at the conclusion of the program.  However, woodland owners from all counties are invited to attend.
