SIPAC Invasive Species Management Field Day

Southern Indiana Purdue Ag Center (SIPAC) will host a series of 4 field days in August and September of 2021 highlighting topics of Forage, Beef, Invasives and Small Ruminants. Anyone interested in the topics featured is welcome to attend, pre-registration is recommended at https://bit.ly/SIPAC2021FieldDays. All Field days are free (educational credits may have a fee) and take place at Southern Indiana Purdue Ag Center (SIPAC) 11371 Purdue Farm Rd, Dubois, IN. Participants who are not vaccinated are encouraged, but not required, to wear a face mask during the indoor portion of programs.

The first free field day will feature Forages on August 21st from 1-5pm at SIPAC and will include an opportunity for PARP credits ($10) for pesticide applicators if needed. Topics to be covered include Weed Management & Herbicides, Forage Pest Management Throughout the Year, Sorghum-Sudangrass Traits for Consideration, Managing Forage Diseases, Breaking the Fragipan with Annual Ryegrass and Festulolium, and Using Cover Crops Successfully with Livestock. The second free field day will focus on Beef Production on August 28th from 1-pm at SIPAC. Topics to be covered include Black Vulture Damage & Control, Transition to Fall Calving – Lessons Learned, Correcting Nutritional Deficiencies Prior to Calving, Extending the Grazing Season through Bale Grazing, Use of Forage Analysis to Optimize Success with Bale Grazing, and SIPAC Cow Herd Update. The third free field day will feature Invasive Species Management on September 11th from 9am-5pm with lunch provided at SIPAC. Topics to be covered include Assessing Your Invasive Plant Problem, Three Pillars of Invasive Management, Control Options and Methods, Herbicide Applications and Safety, Funding and Technical Assistance, and Creating an Invasive Management Plan. The fourth free field day will focus on Small Ruminants on September 18th from 1-5pm at SIPAC. FAMACHA Training will be available for a fee, further registration is necessary for this field day, call Purdue Extension Perry County with questions 812-547-7084.
