Evaluating Your Property

An important first step in selecting a wildlife habitat management strategy is it to determine your specific objectives and evaluate the condition of the habitat on your property. Defining objectives, specifically identifying which wildlife species you are interested in, will help you narrow down and identify which habitat management practices create the best habitat for those wildlife species

Evaluating the quality of habitat on your property will help you determine which components of habitat (e.g., food, water, cover and space) for your chosen species are in short supply or missing entirely. Again, this will help you narrow down the pool of habitat management practices.

This section will cover information on the following topics:

  • Initial considerations for wildlife habitat management
  • Developing your wildlife habitat management objectives
  • Creating a wildlife habitat inventory
  • Evaluating the condition of habitat
